Prayer for today

Almighty God,
who sits on the throne;
we are in awe of your majesty,
which is greater than anything on earth.
Higher than the tallest mountain,
deeper than the deepest sea.
We wonder at your holiness,
and that you care for us.
We are only a tiny speck in this vast universe you have made,
and our lives are over in the blink of an eye;
yet you involve us in your plans.

Thought for the day (Isaiah 6:1-8)                                          Isaiah the prophet, lived through a time of change. The ruler of the nation, King Uzziah, had just died having reigned for 52 years. Fifty two years of stability came to an end, which in itself must have been unsettling. Not only that, Isaiah lived in a time when his people's Assyrian neighbours were the most powerful of all the nations, and a terrible threat. It’s at this time of uncertainty that Isaiah sees God upon the throne. The earthly king may be dead, but the heavenly king is alive and reigns on high. In this chaotic time we are living through. God still sits high on the throne,  surrounded by angels! Kings and queens and earthly rulers don’t last forever, pandemics will come to an end, but God is eternally ruling from on high. There is a sense of comfort and assurance in this.
